In class we will be using a variety of resources as we master the standards for fourth grade. The district has adopted the enVision 2.0 math program for us. Many of the algorithms (the way we solve addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division problems) that we learned as children, were not taught in the lower grades. This year, I will be teaching those traditional methods in addition to the newer ones with which you may not be as familiar. They will be expected to master the traditional addition and traditional subtraction algorithms this year. We will also be using the Area Model for Multiplication and Division as well as Partial Products for Multiplication and Partial Quotients for Division. The students will continue to have homework that needs to be completed each night to practice their skills. These homework assignments serve as a continuous review. The expectation is that they will attempt the homework using all of their knowledge and problem solving skills.
